Pre-orders for PlayStation Portal, Sony’s new peripheral for playing your favorite PS5 and PS4 games remotely, are now available.
After very insistent rumors, the PlayStation Portal was made official by the Japanese manufacturer during the summer of 2023. This new accessory, which divides players and which will not be aimed at all profiles, will be available at the end of the year but you can already secure a copy.

Forget the PS5 Portable, Sony’s next hardware has been renamed PlayStation Portal and it’s not what you think. Indeed, contrary to the nickname that has been given to it for months, the PS Portal is not a portable console. Don’t expect a replacement for the PSP, PS Vita or an equivalent of the Nintendo Switch or you risk being disappointed. In fact, it cannot run titles natively in dematerialized form or on a cartridge. This device is above all a remote player to allow you to enjoy PS5 and PS4 games in the palm of your hands, without the need for a TV.
Even though it’s not a portable console, the PlayStation Portal has an 8-inch screen to display PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games in 1080p 60fps. But on either side of this display, there is also a DualSense to benefit from the advantages of the controller such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The problem is that you need a fiber connection, or concrete VDSL2, at your home, in order to send the signal from your PS5 to this device. But it can obviously be used outdoors, provided there is a good flow rate. To put it simply, it’s more high-end and more expensive remote play.
