Catherine follows in Lady Diana’s footsteps as Princess of Wales. However, she will not wear one of her most important diadems, the “Spencer Tiara”, at the first state banquet with the new title – for this reason.

It is the first official state visit with a new title: King Charles III, 74, takes on Tuesday, November 21, 2022, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, 70, and his wife Dr. Tshepo Motsepe, 69, in Great Britain. This is not only a special occasion for the king, his daughter-in-law Catherine, 40, will also be attending a state banquet for the first time in her new role as Princess of Wales. A memorable moment, which is expected to be celebrated with a very special outfit – and above all jewelry. Prince William’s wife, 40, is known for her elegant and stylish outfits, which she garnishes with meaningful pieces of jewellery. But which tiara will she choose and wear from the treasury of royal stars? This well-known one is guaranteed not to be!

Kate definitely won’t be wearing Lady Diana’s wedding tiara

The “Spencer Tiara” that Diana wore on her wedding day is probably one of the most famous pieces of jewelry in recent history. Accompanying Lady Diana on her way through St Paul’s Cathedral to the Princess of Wales in 1981 would make her probably the most emotional piece for Catherine’s first state banquet as Princess of Wales. But she will certainly not wear this special piece of all things when she receives South Africa’s President Ramaphosa. After Diana’s death, it is said to have gone back to the Spencer family and is therefore no longer owned by the British royal family. So Kate will not wear the 1932 tiara. However, it can be assumed that the 40-year-old will choose another top-class jewel from the royal jewelry collection.

Catherine could wear these tiaras instead

Fan accounts on Instagram are already speculating which headdress from the treasury will adorn Kate’s head instead. The Lover’s Knot tiara, originally commissioned for Queen Mary in 1917, is very popular. Adorned with nineteen hanging pearls and a row of diamonds, the Windsor heirloom is said to have been one of Princess Diana’s favourites, so may also provide a link to the previous Princess of Wales. In addition, it would not be the first time that the mother of three wears this: Catherine showed up with the pretty jewel at the state banquet for King Willem-Alexander, 55, and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, 51, in 2018.

Cartier’s “halo” tiara, her own wedding diadem, could also adorn the head of the Princess of Wales, according to British media. It would be the first time since 2019 that the 900-diamond jewel that was once worn by King George VI. had made for his wife Elizabeth, is used again.

the "Halo"-Tiara by Cartier is something on Kate's wedding day "borrowed" by Queen Elizabeth II.
