The 10 sequels that had the most success at the cinema

Can film sequels always be synonymous with absolute hits in theaters, to the point of exceeding the receipts of the first part? Sometimes, but not always. Here are the 10 biggest box office hits of all time for sequels.

Top Gun: Maverick hasn’t finished shutting down his reactors yet. The sequel to Top Gun continues to resist valiantly at the international Box Office. In the Top 20 Biggest Records of All Time at the Box Office, this sequel ranks 19th, with $1.119 billion in revenue. It’s the biggest hit of Tom Cruise’s (already long) career.

Obviously, in this Top 20, although here we have concentrated on the Top 10, it is a festival of sequels in the franchises that have been crushing the Box Office for quite a few years: the Avengers, the Harry Potter saga, the kings of the asphalt of Fast & Furious, the Star Wars… Just on the first ten entries, Disney logically carves out the share of the (king) lion, with six films in its catalog…

Even if they are out of category, it should be noted that The Dark Knight Rises, sequel to the 2008 film, is in 22nd place, with $1,082,228,107 in box office receipts. It’s also, significantly enough, the only high-profile entry for a superhero in the DC stable. The next one is very far in the ranking, at 50th place, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and its $872,395,091.
