Between two more or less stupid challenges, TikTok is also a popular network for young people to follow the news.
That’s according to the latest figures from the UK’s Communications Observatory (OFCOM).
TikTok as a source of information among younger Britons
The study conducted by OFCOM indicates that for young people aged 12 to 15, the TikTok platform would be the preferred source of information, up to 28%. The Chinese social network is thus ahead of YouTube and Instagram, both credited with 25%. In 2022, Instagram was at the top of the ranking, ahead of TikTok.
OFCOM figures, however, indicate that the BBC remains the most popular medium among British youth, with a score of 39%, provided, however, that all the group’s channels, radio stations, streaming platform and website are grouped together.
Growing adults on TikTok
Still according to this same study, the popularity of TikTok would also increase among adults. 1 in 10 Britons would thus use the famous application as their main source of information, to the chagrin of certain traditional media such as BBC Radio 1 or Channel 5. The most popular source among adults remains, however, this good old television, which informs more than 70% of Britons.
Remember that beyond its sometimes informative nature, the TikTok platform is very widely used to disseminate more or less stupid (and sometimes dangerous) challenges. This is the case of the new trend called “boat jumping”, which consists of jumping from a moving boat and which has already caused 4 deaths.
