A few days after the Pont-de-Buis fire which claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl, the Quimper prosecutor shared new elements as part of the investigation. The fire would be of voluntary origin.
It is a tragic event that marked the inhabitants of the village of Pont-de-Buis, a town located in Finistère. This Monday, February 13, 2023, a fire broke out in the Breton village which resulted in Inâya’s life. The only victim of this deadly fire was just 13 years old. Unlike this mattress which mysteriously ignited, the Pont-de-Buis fire did not start accidentally. At the time of the tragic events, five teenagers aged 14 to 16 were also present at the scene of the fire.
These young people infiltrated the day before in a temporarily unoccupied house in the town. According to the first elements shared by Carine Halley, the public prosecutor of Quimper, and reported by our colleagues from West Francethe youths entered a dwelling which belonged “to one of their acquaintances”. The gang allegedly used a window to infiltrate the house where they allegedly “spent part of the night”.

The next day, early in the morning, one of them allegedly, for undetermined reasons, deliberately set fire to the house while all of his companions were outside. The unfortunate victim would have found herself trapped by the flames while returning to the house to retrieve an object that she had forgotten.continues the magistrate. According to the first elements of the autopsy, the young Inâya would have died as a result of asphyxiation caused by the fire.
The same day the facts occurred, the four other teenagers were taken into custody. One of them, however, was exempted from this procedure, the prosecutor said. “One of the minors, whose state of health was deemed incompatible with police custody, was taken care of in a psychiatric unit”said Carine Halley.
The investigations are now continuing within the criminal division of the Brest court, responsible for the case “ with a view to the opening of a judicial investigation against X on the counts of willful destruction of the property of others by dangerous means resulting in death, a crime punishable by life imprisonment”. After the announcement of the death of Inâya, the emotion is strong in Quimper where many students of the establishment attended by the young girl have multiplied the tributes. The family is devastated by this tragedy.
