A British study has analyzed the main causes of stress among women according to their age, and sees the consequences of the inequalities that remain.
Stress can affect all sexes and all ages. Nevertheless, in women, three main stages can be identified, according to a British study. These different causes can be associated with the mental load and the injunctions of success that women undergo. Faced with this stress, many of them would give up their plans.
Conducted by a UK women’s support network, the interviewee notes that money is a source of stress for women at an equivalent level throughout their lives. But other subjects preoccupy them very differently according to age. Thus, women aged 21 to 34 are the most anxious about their mental health, their careers and their friendships. For the authors of the study, this reflects their desire to progress, but also their fear of the famous professional glass ceiling.

Between the ages of 45 and 54, romantic relationships become the first source of anxiety for 13% of them. This figure skyrockets at this time of their life, testifying according to the study pressure to start a family, the effects of a divorce or the integration of a blended family. Finally, from the age of 65, the participants interviewed indicated that they were rather worried about their family, at an age when they often had a caregiver role.
“The obstacles to women’s happiness and success are often invisible, and because they put others first, it does not change. We must come together to recognize the pressures we face, and work together to help each other overcome them”, analyzes the director of the network. She thus relativizes the myth of the “wonder woman” capable of accomplishing everything. “The first step is to recognize that these obstacles to the success and happiness of women exist,” she judges.
