Microsoft unveils a major update for what it wants to be “An AI companion for everyone“. The firm really wants to make Copilot the intelligent assistant par excellence with which users will interact daily, or almost.

What’s new in Copilot on mobile and desktop

Microsoft has announced a series of updates for Copilot concerning its mobile, web and desktop versions. Here are the new features.

Copilot Voice, for more natural interactions

Voice interaction was THE feature missing from Copilot until now. It will soon be possible to converse with the assistant to receive more natural responses, with the possibility of choosing between four different voices.

Copilot Daily, a summary of news for your morning routine

With Copilot Daily, Microsoft wants to offer you a sort of personalized mini podcast which brings together the main information and news from the day before.

Microsoft

Like a radio newscast, Copilot Daily will first list the headlines before going further in dedicated segments. Content is drawn from sources such as Reuters, Financial Times and Politico with other media partners planned as they become available.

Think Deeper, for more complex queries

Your question to Copilot can sometimes be complex and contain a series of variables that are worth mentioning. For example, when you plan a trip or a meal for several people, you will be able to specify the different profiles to Copilot so that it gives you a precise answer based on all your criteria.

Microsoft

Think Deeper is also suitable for complex math or logic problems as well as advanced code-based queries.

Copilot Vision, your web assistant

Microsoft also presented Copilot Vision, a version of its AI companion directly integrated into its Edge browser. Concretely, Copilot Vision sees everything you see or hear during your navigation (image and text) and can thus respond to your requests in real time.

Microsoft

You can ask for advice on the different products on the screen according to your tastes, such as films or even decoration. Copilot Vision can also help users during their searches and thus converse with them about the content of the page displayed on the screen.

As with Recall, Microsoft wants to reassure about the security and confidentiality of such a feature. Therefore, the user will have to validate the activation of Copilot Vision each time it is launched. A limited list of popular sites will be available at first and no sensitive or paywalled content will be considered.

New design for the Copilot mobile application

To mark the occasion of this major update, the Copilot mobile application has a new design on Android and iOS.

Microsoft

More minimalist, it also offers shorter responses to promote a conversational tone.

Features that will take a long time to come

As usual with AI services, these new features will not be deployed to everyone at the same time, there are certain subtleties.

  • Copilot Voice will be available from October 1 in the English-speaking countries of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Other countries and languages will be available soon.
  • Copilot Daily is available October 1 in the US and UK with additional countries planned in the coming months.
