That’s it ! He’s there ! On the night of December 4 to 5, Rockstar unveiled the very first trailer for GTA 6. Anticipated by furious fans for several years already, the trailer was able to reveal some elements of the game while remaining relatively opaque on its gameplay. Here are 5 things to remember from the trailer.
Rockstar gave GTA fans the best early Christmas present. While the release of the first trailer for GTA 6 was scheduled for today at 3 p.m., the studio was forced to release everything overnight, after the trailer leaked before time on X (Twitter). So, the most anticipated trailer of the decade is finally here, after years of incessant leaks, each more outlandish than the last.
Once the excitement has passed, it is now time to look back at what we learn from this trailer. Fans rest assured, GTA 6 will indeed be a GTA. In other words, the acerbic humor and satire of American society will still be there, in a city more detailed and inhabited than ever. To celebrate the event and be sure not to miss anything, here are the 5 details to remember from this trailer.
1. We will play the first female character in the saga
This was the big reveal of the gigantic leak suffered by Rockstar in 2022. For the first time since the beginning of the saga – suffice to say it was about time – GTA 6 will therefore allow you to play as a woman. Named Lucia, she seems at the heart of the plot. At the start of the trailer, she is in prison, for ” Lack of luck ” according to its terms. Although we don’t yet know how, she will meet Jason, who she will take on her adventures. Everything therefore suggests that this new opus will use the emblematic character transition system of GTA 5. We can’t wait to find out more about it.
2. Vice City will make a comeback
Another major confirmation: the plot will indeed take place in Vice City. At least in part, because the leaks seemed to indicate that the game will also take us to visit South America, where Lucia is from. It’s hard to miss it, since the trailer includes a shot of the city sign. But not only that, since several subtle references are also hidden, such as the cult Cheetah from the 2002 game, or the front of the Ocean View hotel. No doubt, we are indeed in Florida.
3. We may face animals
And who says Florida, necessarily says… alligators. Indeed, Rockstar has clearly not detached itself from its indulgence in clichés, which the studio likes to exacerbate to their climax. In a short passage of the trailer, we see an alligator entering a store via images filmed by a security camera, one of the many references to rival videos on social networks – a point to which we will return later. Obviously, the question of the place of animals in GTA 6 arises. Until now, the latter were very little present – or even absent – in the license. After Red Dead Redemption 2 which made us face bears, alligators and other wolves, will GTA 6 do the same?
4. Social networks seem to play an important part
GTA 5 had already caused a sensation by making the smartphone an integral element of its gameplay. With its successor, it seems that Rockstar is taking the concept a little further, this time with an emphasis on social networks. Indeed, many shots in the trailer are “filmed” on a smartphone, with a design reminiscent of TikTok and Instagram Lives. Not to mention the few characters in the background who film each other in the hope of creating a buzz. We also find several references to real videos available today on the Internet. The trailer emphasizes this point so much that it seems obvious that Lucia and Jason will have their own social networks to manage.
5. The game will be released in 2025
This is the information we’ve all been waiting for. Some leaks had been particularly optimistic, counting on a release of GTA 6 in 2024, or even 2023 for the more adventurous. We will ultimately have to wait until 2025 to finally play the new GTA. No further details at the moment, we do not yet know whether it will be the beginning or the end of the year. As a reminder, GTA 5 was released on September 17, 2013. If Rockstar does not announce a postponement by then – which is far from being ruled out at the moment – fans will have waited 12 years to discover what will certainly be voted by some game of the decade. It won’t be the first time they’ve been asked to be patient.
