Apple spent some time bragging about its new security feature, but others smartphones already offer it to their users.

The keynote presentation of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro was an opportunity for Apple to announce a new service available on its latest smartphones.

An automatic emergency call system integrated into the latest iPhones

The vintage 2022 iPhones are now able to automatically detect that you have just been in a car accident.

The phone’s various sensors, such as the accelerometer, will identify the crash and the violence of the impact and automatically switch to a dedicated mode. This mode is also available on the latest Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra.

iOS will first ask you if you are okay. A button then allows a simple slide to the right to automatically contact the emergency service of the country in which you are. If you don’t answer within a few seconds, the iPhone 14 will automatically place the call for you and also send your GPS location, in countries whose emergency services are able to receive such data.

Google has been offering the same feature since 2019 on its Pixels, but no one seems to know

After watching the keynote, one could say that Apple had a very innovative idea to ensure the safety of its users. However, Apple is not the first to offer this type of option. Indeed Google offers with its Pixel range the same type of road accident detection system, but few people today know that it exists.

Google introduced it precisely in parallel with the launch of Google Pixel 4, in 2019. The search engine giant had briefly mentioned it in a simple sentence during its presentation conference, where Apple spent several minutes discussing it. explain. Google’s system is similar to Apple’s, using the phone’s accelerometer and an automatic call to emergency services if alerts sent by the Pixel after the crash are not responded to.

If you have a Pixel 3 or higher, just open the “Security” app and check the “Detection” option, tap on “Settings” and then, under “Detection and alerts”, tap on “Car crash detection” to activate the option.
