A dialogue between two characters from the Star Wars series The Acolyte suggests that the Sith helmet has another surprising ability. There would be a link with the universe of Knights of the Old Republic.
A helmet can have several functions. It allows you to hide your true identity. It also serves to protect against shocks. In The Acolyte, the one worn by the Sith also has the ability to withstand lightsaber blows, thanks to cortosis. But, obviously, this piece of equipment has yet another, even more remarkable, ability. The following contains spoilers.
A helmet capable of countering the Force?
During the duel between Jedi Master Sol and Qimir, the mysterious Sith, dialogue suggested that this helmet has the ability to counter certain Force manipulation techniques, such as mind control or thought reading. Sol demands that his enemy show his face, but Qimir declines. So that you can read my thoughts? No no no. »
We know that it exists in Star Wars creatures with a natural ability to resist certain manipulations. We can think of Watto, the Toydarian who owned Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine. When Qui-Gon Jinn tries to influence the slaver, he realizes that his technique does not work. This is the best known case.
But there are others, notably in the old extended universe: we can mention the ysamalari, lizards which can repel the Force in the surroundings, which creates a sort of Force-free zone. We can also mention the Yuuzhan Vong, an alien race who came from another galaxy and who seemed not to exist in the Force.
Qimir is neither a Toydarian nor a Yuuzhan Vong, but a priori an “ordinary” human. He does not have a ysamalari on his head either. It is therefore visibly his helmet that provides this protection. We know that it is made of cortosis, a metal capable of resisting a lightsaber blade (and can also deactivate it for a short time).
Obviously, another material went into the making. At least that’s one theory that would explain why Qimir insists on keeping it (although later in the episode, Qimir doesn’t have it anymore and Sol doesn’t seem to try anything). And there are also items that can counter Force spells.

This is what fans recalled in a thread on Reddit. In the video game Knights of the Old Republic, released in 2003, and which is the subject of a remake, there is a “Sith mask” which protects the spirit. He ” blocks out outside mental influences and other sensory noise, allowing the user to focus on their abilities without distraction. »
Nothing says, of course, that the helmet that Qimir uses is this Sith mask in particular, but we can see a certain filiation there. This is all the more plausible since Leslye Headland, the director of The Acolyte, has already made it known that she had drawn from the KOTOR universe to develop her story. This is a credible lead.
If it turns out to be correct, this track also allows us to say that this material is extremely rare or excessively unknown. Or that it requires very particular forging processes and, why not, a certain Sith sorcery. This is obviously very hypothetical for the moment and we may have to wait for other episodes to see more clearly.
In any case, this would also explain why other iconic helmets from the saga, such as that of Darth Vader, Kylo Ren or even those worn by the Mandalorians, do not seem to have this ability to block mental manipulation techniques. . Perhaps because it is an obscure, forgotten ancestral art.
