In a column published this Sunday, December 17 in “Le Journal du Dimanche”, several members of Gérard Depardieu’s family expressed their support for the actor, accused of sexual violence.
Since the broadcast on December 7 of an episode of Further investigation (France 2) on Gérard Depardieu, accusations of sexual violence against him resurface. The report notably shows extracts from a film directed by Yann Moix, where Gérard Depardieu utters obscenities towards women and a little girl during a trip to North Korea. If his words shocked, personalities from the world of cinema wanted to give him their support, like actresses Nathalie Baye and Véronique Genest and director Josée Dayan. Yann Moix claims that the images from his documentary were “stolen to be used in a context other than that for which they were made”. Added to this support this Sunday, December 17 that of several members of Gérard Depardieu’s familyvia a column published in The Sunday Journal.

In this column signed “Julie, Roxane, Jean, Delphine, Élisabeth and the whole Depardieu family”, it is stated that the plans for the Yann Moix documentary used by Further investigation “are necessarily suspect since we can mount them as we want”. The authors say their loved ones “delivered to an unprecedented cabal” and affirm that the remarks made by Gérard Depardieu “were not targeting a little girl”. Worrying that “the collective rage only gets crazier”the actor’s family assures that “in private, with his children, he is an extremely modest persondelicate and even prudish. […] We absolutely must stop confusing words and actions. Rude, saucy, Gallic, heavy sometimes, yes, but not violent!” They criticize the documentary for “use Gérard’s verbal provocations to support other accusations (unproven at the moment). To conclude, those close to the actor call “just to reason and to let justice work”.

More than a dozen women accuse Gérard Depardieu of sexual violence
The accusations against Gérard Depardieu are numerous. In 2019, the actress Emmanuelle Debever accused him via its official Facebook page to have benefited “intimacy inside a carriage” to slide “his big paw under [ses] petticoats” on the set of the film Danton by Andrzej Wajda, in 1982. The actress died at age 60 on December 6after throwing herself into the Seine. In 2018, actress Charlotte Arnould filed a complaint for rape and sexual harassment against Gérard Depardieu, then revealed to be at the origin of this complaint in 2021. A Mediapart investigation, published last April, also collected the testimony of thirteen women accusing the actor of sexual violence. Last September, the actress Hélène Darras also filed a complaint against the 74-year-old actor for sexual assault. The case is still ongoing.
