The Agen mosque tagged again, two years later

The Agen mosque was tagged on the night of Saturday to Sunday May 8. An investigation has been opened.

The tags represented a smiley accompanied by a five-pointed star but did not bear any racist or Islamophobic inscription. Nevertheless, this new degradation which occurred last night aroused the indignation of the Muslim community of Agen.

“The mosque of Agen is again the target of offensive tags, despite the fact that this mosque harbors a message of peace, respect and openness”, commented Mohamed Fellah, deputy mayor of Agen, Jean Dionis. .

The city police went to the scene and an investigation was opened to find the perpetrator or perpetrators.

The same mosque already targeted in July 2020

This is the second time that this place of worship has been targeted. On July 26, 2020, several tags, including a swastika, were then discovered on the facade of the mosque.

Among these tags, drawn with a spray of red paint, there are also drawings representing “a middle finger and a male sex”, according to a prefectural source contacted by AFP.
