The idea dates back 4 years already with the arrival of Smart Compose in Gmail. Very practical for quickly insert polite expressions Or finish sentences.

Advances inartificial intelligence helping, the function gains in power and becomes Help Me Write, which writes entire emails based on a simple request from you. Present in most Google applications like Docs or Keep, it will even be included in the Chrome browser to work on any site. The Mountain View firm does not forget its messaging application Messages however. If the latter benefits from Help Me Write, Google announced Magic Compose last May.

Until now reserved for American users only, at least with an American SIM card, the function is starting to appear in France. It takes place on the new Messages composition interface. When replying to someone, tap the icon representing a bubble with a star in one corner. This is the famous Help Me Write. A list of suggested messages appears and you must choose one that fits in the input bar. There, a new icon appearsshaped pencil with a star.

Press it and the AI ​​will send up to 20 of your previous messages, emojis, reactions and web addresses to Google For generate suitable proposals. Note that “messages with attachments, voicemails, and images are not sent to Google servers, but image captions and voice transcriptions may be sent.” The messages are then deleted from servers and are not used to training language models for AI.

You can also write something yourself and use Magic Compose to change the tone of the message : Remix, Playful, Relaxed, Shakespeare, Lyrical, Formal or Short (titles are subject to change). The feature is currently rolling out, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see it right away. People with beta versions of Google Messages and Carrier Services will have it sooner, as will subscribers to Google One Premium.
