Sony’s schedule seems set like clockwork. For some time now, the Japanese manufacturer has been alternating every year between renewing its range of high-end headphones – the WH-1000X – and that of its high-end wireless headphones – the WF-1000X.

One year after the launch of its WH-1000XM5 headphones, it is logical that Sony presented its new Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones on Monday. A year after its Linkbuds and Linkbuds S, the Japanese firm is once again attacking the high-end segment and, to do this, has endeavored to correct the few faults of the previous models, the Sony WF-1000XM4.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones are thus much more compact and lighter than their predecessors. Sony thus announces a 25% more compact format and a 20% lighter weight. This is enough to correct the inconvenience that some may have encountered with the previous headphones, which tended to press hard against the auricle.

In addition to this new format, the WF-1000XM5 benefit from new dynamic Driver X transducers developed in-house. These transducers are supported by a dual Sony V2 processor and a chip dedicated to processing QN2e HD noise reduction. Remember that, in this sector, Sony was already hitting very hard with its previous versions. Nevertheless, Bose and Apple managed to steal its crown last year with their QC Earbuds 2 and AirPods Pro 2.

Multipoint Bluetooth and long battery life

Bluetooth connectivity is not to be outdone, since Sony confirms support for SBC, AAC and LDAC, thus ensuring compatibility with the Hi-Res Audio Wireless standard. Multipoint Bluetooth is also included, to allow you to connect the headphones to two sources simultaneously.

Finally, in terms of autonomy, the headphones are advertised as being able to operate for 8 hours with noise reduction activated, and up to 12 hours without noise reduction. The case – compatible with wireless charging – allows it to increase this autonomy to 24 hours with ANC and 36 hours without.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 will be available in August. They will be offered in two colors, black or silver, at a price of 320 euros in France. Until then, you can already consult our complete test of the Sony WF-1000XM5.
