Several thousand people opposed to abortion marched in Paris on Sunday against the bill extending the legal deadline for abortion and to make their “10 proposals” heard by presidential candidates, during the traditional “March for Life “.

This year, “the first subject is the Gaillot bill […], an iniquitous law” which must authorize the extension of the legal duration of the voluntary interruption of pregnancy from 12 to 14 weeks, declared Nicolas Tardy-Joubert, president of the “March” before the departure of the procession.

Gathered in the freezing cold, the demonstrators – including many teenagers and young adults – held up pink and yellow signs: “Stop bothering with embryos” or “To live is a right, not a choice”.

Femen activists burst in, topless, in front of the stage set up at the end of the course, shouting “Blessed be the 14 weeks! “Or” abortion is sacred “, according to a video posted on the Twitter account of the feminist movement. They were evacuated by the order service of the demonstration.

The “second important subject” of this mobilization “is the presidential election”, estimated Tardy-Joubert, calling on the candidates to ensure “that the protection of human life is a great national cause”. “We do not support anyone”, he added, but “we present our 10 proposals” to the candidates, such as “restoring the reflection period of at least 3 days” before an abortion or the rejection “of assisted suicide and ‘euthanasia’.

According to organizers, some 20,000 people took part in this “March for Life”, which is held every January. The Prefecture of Police counted around 4,500 demonstrators.
