A new tool has just appeared on the web, which would make it possible to identify texts produced by artificial intelligence ChatGPT.

And it was a young computer science and journalism student from Princeton, Edward Tian, who gave birth to this instrument. Her name ? GPTZero!

An anti-plagiarism tool

A big question has been driving the education system since the appearance of the ChatGPT chatbot. How to prevent students from using it to do their homework? Several solutions have been put forward since December, from hidden signatures to outright bans.

But it seems that Edward Tian has better to offer. The young man has just developed a program allowing, by simply entering the text, to check whether or not it has been generated by an artificial intelligence. To do this, GPTZero relies on two variables, namely the randomness of a sentence (bewilderment) and that of the entire text (burstiness).

The more the sentences and the structure of the text appear random to GPTZero, the more the application will be “surprised” and will give a high score to the analyzed text. As you can guess, low scores are more likely to characterize text produced by an AI, and high scores, that of a human being.

Investors are already showing up

And the longer the text integrated into the software, the more accurate the diagnosis will be. The tool, developed by Edward Tian during his winter vacation, could quickly experience new advances. The latter, which moreover is not ” opposed to the use of AI in writing when necessary », wishes, in fact, to further improve the capabilities of the software and to do so « completely evolve “.

The financial world seems to be already on the lookout. ” Since yesterday, several investment funds have slipped into my DMs on Twitter » he thus explained to the Daily Beast. And among the big names interested, we can find Menlo Venture, Red Swan or A16Z.

For those who wish to test the beast, they can try to connect directly to GPTZero, or on this alternative link. Unfortunately, in view of success, it can be complicated to have access to it today.
