On September 16, 2022, Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian Kurdish woman, died at the hands of the Tehran morality police. According to the authorities, she “wore badly” the veil imposed in the country. His sudden disappearance triggered the anger of Iranian women against the repression they suffer from the government. Their protests resonated around the world. Considered an outlaw in her country of origin, Iranian model Farnoush Hamidian supports the movement from Europe. The 35-year-old model, who paid tribute to them at the Cannes Film Festival by displaying the slogan “Woman, life, freedom”, spoke at length in an interview with the magazine Marie Clairepublished this Saturday, September 16.
Despite the violence carried out by the government against the demonstrators and their supporters, Farnoush Hamidian remains optimistic : “I am in contact with many people who are tired, devastated, but who will never give up”, she says. The model deplores the lack of media treatment and international solidarity, a year after the death of Mahsa Amini. “The situation is getting worse. The government is now arresting the families of those it executed“, she explains. Iranians are also suffering from the increase in the price of bread and regular water and Internet cuts.
