You’re dying to try visionOS and you’ve got a Meta Quest Pro on hand. Bingo, you then have the headphones you need to try out a software simulation faithfully reproducing the interface expected on the Apple Vision Pro.

Offering the impatient a taste of VisionOS is indirectly the idea of Supernova Technologies, which exploited the 3D Unity engine to recreate from scratch the operating system dedicated to theApple Vision Proexpected at the beginning of 2024 and the price of which caused a lot of reaction.

A faithful simulation, for a good reason

As our colleagues from WatchGeneration, this simulation is not entirely trivial. Supernova developed it in the first place in order to promote its in-house framework. A guarantee of relative fidelity for this copy of visionOS which appears, as on the Apple Vision Pro, directly in the user’s environment.

To work, this replica uses the controls of the Quest Pro and in particular eye tracking, which serves as the basis for the experience here. It allows you to select an application or menu items. To “click” on it, however, you have to pinch with your fingers. A gesture that also allows you to juggle between different windows.

Supernova Technologies, on the other hand, recommends performing an eye tracking calibration before launching the interface, but also literally rolling up your sleeves, since finger pinches are less precise with long sleeves. Evolving in a well-lit environment is also advisable.

The demo freely accessible on GitHub

Although quite successful, this visionOS replica inevitably suffers from the “limits” of the Meta Quest, which does not have a downward-pointing camera, unlike the Vision Pro. It is therefore impossible to interact with the interface without reaching out. Concept obliges, the applications displayed cannot be launched, precise WatchGeneration.

Anyway, if you still want to try the demo developed by Supernova, it is freely accessible at this address on GitHub. It will then be necessary to sideloader to use it on a Meta Quest Pro… keeping in mind that other Meta headsets are not compatible. They do not have any on-board eye tracking technology.
