The Ariane 6 space launcher will not take off before 2023

BRIEF // ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher announced in an interview that we will still have to wait to witness the maiden flight of Ariane 6, the future European launcher. Scheduled for 2022, it should finally take place in 2023.

Bad news for Arianespace and lovers of space conquest. The maiden flight of Ariane 6, which was scheduled for autumn 2022 from Guyana, will not take place before 2023. It is the director general of the European Space Agency (ESA), Josef Aschbacher, who has announced on June 13 during an interview with the BBC. The information was confirmed by the ESA, which did not give a precise launch window. This is already the third postponement of the mission after similar announcements in 2020 and 2021. However, ESA has not yet communicated on the reasons which this time caused the postponement, while the Covid-19 pandemic had been mentioned during previous adjournments.
