AYANEO unveils an atypical portable console equipped with a dedicated graphics card; a rather daring bet.

For some time now, AYANEO has been announcing new versions and versions of its console of the same name at a fairly frenetic pace. Its CEO recently formalized AYANEO Next II. In order to stand out from current portable consoles, this one has the particularity of carrying a dedicated GPU, in principle intended for laptops. The goal: more graphic power.

AMD or Intel system

The company will draw from the catalog of Intel Arc Alchemist and AMD Radeon RX 6000 mobile graphics cards. The exact references have not yet been specified. Of course, given the power restrictions and thermal considerations imposed by a portable console, don’t expect a Radeon RX 6800M or Arc A770M; the AYANEO Next II will rather be equipped with entry-level references. We can count on a Radeon RX 6400M or even 6500M, or Arc Alchemist A350M/A370M.

Regarding the CPU, AYANEO plans to mobilize Ryzen 6000 and Intel Alder Lake mobile processors, without further details. But obviously, the company will offer two versions of the AYANEO Next II, one 100% AMD, the other 100% Intel.

What about the size of the console, the cooling, the autonomy?

Other features of the console have not been revealed. However, installing a dedicated graphics card in a portable console is a challenge, and we are curious to see how AYANEO will meet the challenges brought about by this integration, both in terms of format, autonomy and cooling. In fact, apart from possible eccentricities which would be unknown to us, all the portable consoles marketed today are built around an APU or a SoC combining the GPU and the CPU within the same chip.

Remember that the AYANEO Next, first of the name, was launched only at the beginning of the year. It has an AMD APU, in this case the Ryzen 7 5800U. If we can see this first version as a competitor of the Steam Deck, there is a big difference between the prices of the two consoles: the entry ticket was set at more than 1000 euros (1200 now), while the Valve machine is available from 419 euros. The bill for the AYANEO Next II could logically increase. Objectively, the real role of competitor would therefore perhaps belong to the AYANEO Air, whose prices are more in line with those of the Steam Deck.

For the moment, the launch date of the AYANEO Next II is not yet known.
