On the sidelines of the pro-Palestinian demonstration called by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, an LFI deputy is at the origin of a controversy. David Guiraud made comments relativizing the actions of Hamas and the rise of anti-Semitism. Words to confuse the message of the great march against anti-Semitism on Sunday?

“The baby in the oven was done by Israel. The disembowelled mother was done, it’s true, by Israel.” These are the comments putting Hamas’ actions into perspective which were made by LFI MP David Guiraud during a meeting with pro-Palestinian activists in Tunis, entitled: “Can we still defend the Palestinians in France?” Comments that are controversial on social networks. Mathilde Panot came to support the elected official from the North: “David Guiraud has never minimized the war crimes that were perpetrated by Hamas.” But one wonders if they were not placed on purpose to confuse the message of the big march on Sunday.

Sunday’s LFI demonstration finally banned

The answer is undoubtedly yes, since it is a march boycotted by rebellious France. David Guiraud also denounces the exploitation of the fight against anti-Semitism by Gérald Darmanin. La France insoumise wanted to hold its own demonstration on Sunday against anti-Semitism, but also against racism and the far right. A demonstration which was finally banned by the Paris police headquarters this Saturday evening.

If some rebels justified their absence at the transpartisan rally by the presence of the National Rally, Jean-Luc Mélenchon did not hesitate to describe on X (formerly Twitter) “the meeting initiative for friends of support unconditional to the massacre in Gaza. Several rebels were also present this Saturday afternoon in several cities in France, in demonstrations in support of Palestine and to demand a ceasefire. A line maintained by rebellious France since the start of the conflict, despite the controversies and accusations of anti-Semitism which target several figures in the party, notably Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
