Something new this year: beneficiaries of the back-to-school allowance will receive two payments a few days apart. Explanations.

The start of the new school year is fast approaching and, like every year, millions of families rely on the back-to-school allowance (ARS) to make their purchases. Already paid in Mayotte and Reunion, it will be on August 16 in mainland France, the Antilles and Guyana. Small novelty however, the back-to-school allowance has been revalued at 4% under the Purchasing Power Protection Act. This supplement will therefore be sent to the beneficiaries a few days later to compensate for the soaring prices of school supplies, clothing and canteen notes. This second payment represents around fifteen euros. Of course, the payment of this bonus is supervised since it depends on household income and number of dependent children. As specified by Telegram, it concerns households with at least 1 child and annual resources of less than 25,370 euros. Also those with two children and annual resources of less than 31,225 euros and 3 children with annual incomes of less than 37,080. More specifically, taking into account this revaluation, the back-to-school allowance will be 392.05 for children from 6 to 10 years oldof 413.69 for those aged 11 to 14 and of 428.02 for teenagers aged 15 to 18. The ARS is paid by the family allowance fund (CAP).

The price of canteens explodes

According to a study by the Institute Generations & Cothe average back-to-school budget this year will amount to 516 euros per child, compared to 462 euros last year. Parents expect to pay for school supplies around 9 euros more than in 2021 and well beyond for middle and high school students. Same observation concerning the price of canteens. According to Philippe Laurent, vice-president of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF), their prices will suffer an increase of between 5 and 10%.

As reported RMCthe price of some canteens even goes jump 190%. This will be the case in particular in Saint-Germain-sur-Morin, in Seine-et-Marne, where the parents do not take off. “There is the increase in energy prices which is very significant because a municipality manages a lot of buildings, which have to be heated and managed. There is also the rise in the cost of raw materials and in particular food and then now the rise in the index point for civil servants to 3.5%. This is extremely important for the municipalities,” justified Philippe Laurent, vice-president of the Association of mayors of France.
