The Belle Époque: what period would Daniel Auteuil dream of reliving?

In “La Belle Époque”, broadcast tonight on France 2, Daniel Auteuil plays Victor, a sixty-year-old who dreams of reliving the 1970s. At our microphone, the actor told us when he would choose to leave if he could. .

“If you had to relive an era, which one would you choose?”

This is the question posed to the characters of La Belle Époque, the feature film by Nicolas Bedos broadcast this evening on France 2. In this successful film winner of 3 César, we follow the character of Victor, a sixty-something played by Daniel Auteuil and completely disenchanted with his time.

Thanks to the services of an entertainment company like no other, he then has the opportunity to relive the best period of his life: the 1970s, and in particular his meeting with the woman of his life in a small bistro in Lyon.

When we met him in November 2019 to discuss the film, we asked Daniel Auteuil which era he would choose if he too could relive one. Like his character, the actor then spoke to us about the 70s, when he was a young adult, evoking in particular the city of London.

“It would be a discovery of the first moments, not of adolescence, but of young man, when one leaves the house of his parents”he had replied, recalling at the same time his own memories:

“I come to Paris to try to be an actor, and I haven’t seen much, and I’m going to England for the first time. It’s the beginning of the 70s, there are the Beatles, the music. .. And it’s the discovery of this new music. London, at that time, it’s the idea that we have of what is best in life.”

The actress Doria Tillier, who shares the poster with him in the film, had for her part evoked her childhood, and in particular the first day of the summer holidays. As for the director Nicolas Bedoshe told us that he would dream of visiting Paris in the 1920s.
