Just in time for the festival, Stiftung Warentest updated its smartphone leaderboards and tested 18 new devices, including the iPhone 12. The testers present their overall winners, the best camera smartphones, award-winning smartphones and particularly enduring smartphones.

Three Samsung cars are among the overall winners: That Galaxy Note 20 5G (from 645 euros), the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G (from 895 euros) and that Galaxy S20 5G (from 625 euros) each received an overall grade of 1.8. The devices performed well or very well in almost all categories; goods test only found the battery performance to be satisfactory.

This also achieved the same quality rating iPhone 12 Pro (1120 euros). Apple's new smartphone was also consistently rated as good or very good except for endurance (satisfactory). The cheaper one iPhone 12 (875 euros) could have achieved the same overall grade, but had to be satisfied with an overall grade of 2.0 after the drop tests due to severe injuries.

Camera champions

Anyone looking for the smartphones with the most powerful cameras will also find them in the overall winners, although that Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the iPhone 12 Pro the best with a grade of 1.8 Galaxy Note 20 follows just behind (1.8).

The top smartphones require high performance and have sophisticated displays, which is why they are not among the most durable devices at Stiftung Warentest. Here, cheaper devices that are less demanding have the edge. The testers certify the best battery performance Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite, which is available from 265 euros. Warentest also recommends that Samsung Galaxy A31 (from 207 euros), the Oppo A72 (from 194 euros) and that Xiaomi Redmi 8 (from 120 euros).

Good price hit

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite is also the first choice if you are looking for a cheap but still well-rated smartphone. With a quality rating of 2.1, it is hardly worse than the overall winner and also has reasonable camera equipment (2.7).

That too Oppo A72 With an overall grade of 2.4, it belongs to the price-performance tips that like its stable companion Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (from 195 euros) achieved the quality rating 2.4. That also applies to that Huawei P40 Lite, however, buyers of this smartphone have to forego Google services because the Trump administration blacklisted the manufacturer. It is unlikely that this will change under Joe Biden.
