Google announced its Google Pixel 6a during Google I/O. Successor to the Pixel 5a, it intends to offer a more compact format and the same photo capabilities as the 6 series for an even more affordable price.

If Google has just announced the price of the Pixel 6a, unfortunately we have no idea of the availability date. If you are impatient to change your smartphone model, we have listed the best alternatives for you.

  • Very nice screen…
  • The performance of the Google Tensor
  • The best camera phone at this price level
  • Good autonomy
  • 5 years of updates
The lessers

  • … but only 90 Hz
  • Huge screen bezels
  • Rather slow charging
  • Some nonsense about Android 12
  • No 4K60 fps video at ultra-wide angle

If photography is your thing, let’s not waste a moment to declare that under 650 euros, we won’t find anything better than the Google Pixel 6. Thanks to its new sensor and its algorithms, which are more precise than ever, it offers dizzying images, no matter the scenario presented to him.

But all is not rosy, and the Pixel 6 escapes the maximum score for several points. First for its design which, as I write above, is both dated and a bit crude. Then, even if it is excellent, the Pixel 6 screen is capped at 90 Hz. A frequency that is hardly used anymore except by Google, or entry-level manufacturers. Recharging is also a little slow, the front photo sensor dated and the ultra wide-angle quite limited.

No offense, I enjoyed my time with the Pixel 6. It’s a very intuitive, solid smartphone, and ultimately offers everything one could want in a mid/high end smartphone. range. Add to that the software support guaranteed for five years, and we are not far from having the best Android smartphone launched in this segment this year. A success.

  • Manufacturing quality
  • Great screen
  • The Samsung One UI
  • Very good photo module
  • Solid autonomy
The lessers

  • Performance behind
  • Slowness in the interface
  • No more jack, charger and earphones
  • Slow charging and no wireless charging

At the time of the balance sheet, it is clear that the Galaxy A53 5G is a solid smartphone on its supports that we can recommend to most users with less than 500 euros to spend on a phone. Its manufacturing quality, its screen, its photo module, its solid autonomy and its extensive software support are all assets to its credit.

Of course, it is not free from flaws. We particularly regret its lack of performance (which will surely only hinder players) and its still too slow recharging. If you already have a Galaxy A52, the changes are not significant enough to pass on this A53. For those who have a smartphone that shows signs of weakness and are looking for a good companion for the years to come, this new model is a safe bet.

  • Sober design for a gaming smartphone
  • A racing beast
  • The triggers to play
  • Very nice 120 Hz AMOLED screen
  • Doesn’t overheat in-game
The lessers

  • Ultra-wide-angle and macro photo sensors
  • Autonomy too fair
  • A massive smartphone
  • No waterproofing or wireless charging

The POCO F4 GT fulfills its promise: a high-performance smartphone aimed at the most demanding mobile gamers. Its excellent performance, responsive screen and magnetic triggers provide undeniable gaming comfort. Add to that a nice build quality and not too ostentatious design for a gaming phone and the deal is almost done.

Almost, because POCO had to make concessions to offer such a level of performance for a price below 600 euros (excluding promotions). The photo module was clearly an adjustment variable. The main sensor is correct and the other two to forget.

We also regret the autonomy that is too fair for those who play daily. A defect fortunately counterbalanced by an ultra-fast recharge which allows you to leave for 24 hours after only 17 minutes of recharge.

  • A compact and durable smartphone
  • Impressive performance
  • Always beautiful photos in broad daylight
  • The guarantee of at least 5 years of updates
  • Progress in autonomy
The lessers

  • More expensive than the old model
  • Too little new
  • A technical sheet that is really starting to date
  • Very slow charging
  • Portrait mode limited to humans

It’s obvious: Apple is starting to pull the strings with its iPhone SE. The design of the phone is very dated. And even if it is very durable, both externally and on the software side, we would appreciate if the manufacturer did not just recycle.

That being said, it’s hard to be tough on the iPhone SE. Yes, its screen is LCD, HD+ and 60 Hz. But damn it is well calibrated! And the Apple A15 Bionic which the team simply does wonders in terms of performance. It’s simple: to find such a fast Android phone, you have to pay more than 800 euros.

Admittedly, the iPhone SE may seem anachronistic on many points. Whether it’s its design, its screen or its unique camera, everything takes us back in time. But as a gateway to the world of iOS, this new model manages to offer a complete and satisfying experience. We could have done without the price increase attributable to 5G, but we will be magnanimous this time. Hoping that the next model will reshuffle the cards a little more.

If these recent smartphones do not meet your expectations, it would be appropriate to turn to:

  • Google Pixel 5a: released last year, it is now difficult to find. Notice to scouts and pros of good plans, you can get a great deal.
  • OnePlus Nord 2: a very interesting alternative, the OnePlus smartphone offers a very nice screen and solid performance for less than 400 euros.
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 FE: a 120 Hz screen, a Snapdragon 888, and an IP68 rating are the strengths of Samsung’s smartphone. Add to that the Samsung One UI overlay, and you have a pleasant smartphone to use on a daily basis. Be careful, it remains one of the most expensive alternatives.

Do you plan to buy the Google Pixel 6a? Did we miss an interesting alternative? Do not hesitate to let us know in the comments.
