GOTS or organic certification, what is it?

This organic label concerns textiles from around the world, and is obtained only by one of the certification bodies. For France, these are organizations Ecocert, Control Union and GCL international.

⭐Advantages of the GOTS label:

  • Environmentally friendly production and transformation processes
  • Improving working conditions
  • Promotion of the use of organic fibers
  • Prohibition of dangerous inputs (toxic heavy metals, aromatic solvents, etc..)

Only certification by an accredited body affixes the mention "organic textile" with the GOTS logo. Today only a few players hold this exclusivity. Products marketed and certified organic must comply with rigorous specifications throughout the sector. Choosing this label for its washable protections contributes to the protection of the environment and the health of our privacy.

There are 2 levels of certification:

  • Level 1: Textiles composed of more than 95% certified organic fibers and less than 5% synthetic fibers.
  • Level 2: Textiles composed of more than 70% certified organic fibers and less than 30% non-organic fibers (including max 10% synthetic fibers)

The GOTS label applies to any product made up of fibers, wools, fabrics, clothing and furnishing fabrics (except leather), and to all producers of raw materials, textile processors and manufacturers, distributors, importer, exporter, brands or any other player in the textile industry.

Tencel trend, the healthier and more ecological fiber

Tencel is a material made from eucalyptus fibers. It's about a artificial material, and not synthetic. This means that its raw material is not petroleum but cellulose from natural sources (wood, leaves, plant stems, eucalyptus).
Fiber is not harvested as is, but processed in cellulose pulp, then in filaments and finally in son.
Tencel is therefore obtained from bamboo or eucalyptus, without destroying the plant at the root. It is a material less harmful to the environment, more natural, but also more expensive … Its main advantage is to be very absorbent, and without impact on health.

⭐Advantages of Tencel:

  • Breathable, moisture wicking level higher than cotton
  • Material sweet with a silky finish
  • Resistant and very comfortable
  • Good fixing of colors and pigments
  • Biodegradable, unlike plastics
  • Absorption capacity superior to cotton, guaranteed zero leakage
  • Environmentally friendly manufacturing process (non-toxic NMMO solvent)
  • Cellulose extracted from wood from sustainable forests (PEFC certification and FSC label)

Lightness and softness, all about merino wool

Merino is a fiber made from the wool of Merino sheep, known for its exceptional finesse and softness.

⭐Advantages of merino wool:

  • Ensures softness, flexibility and comfort
  • Regulates temperature without keeping humidity
  • Anti-odor and anti-bacterial
  • Dries quickly without deformation, does not scratch
  • Durable and biodegradable
  • Easily mixes with other fibers
  • UV resistant, protects from cold and heat

Modibodi, one of the menstrual pants tested, has patented a unique technology designed using merino wool.

Merino sheep provide the finest wool available, with absorbency of 35% of its weight in moisture.
Merino sheep produce a new fleece each year, taken with respect for their well-being. This wool is one material at a time healthy and ecological which has its place in the fabrics we choose to wear.
There are now producers of merino wool in South America, Europe, and even in France in the Alps. The Modibodi range is supplied by merino sheep farmers engaged in animal welfare and not practicing Museling (painful process for removing parasites).
