‘The best ‘Predator’: Critics rave about Disney+ movie

Since his cinema debut in 1987, in which he hunted down Arnold Schwarzenegger and a group of mercenaries in the Central American jungle, the Predator has been one of the greatest horror icons in film history. With “Predator 2”, “Predators” and “Predator – Upgrade” the original even attracted three sequels. There were also two crossovers with the Alien franchise, Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator 2. And even if all these sequels were at least financially convincing, they left most fans and critics disappointed. In particular, “Predator – Upgrade” was recently panned properly.

But this streak of bad luck could end with “Predator 5” by director Dan Trachtenberg, which will be available on Disney + from August 5th. The action of “Prey”, the actual title of the sci-fi horror action film, takes place in North America in the 18th century. The focus is on Naru (Amber Midthunder) from the Comanche people who live with her tribe on the Great Plains east of the Rocky Mountains. She wants to prove herself as a warrior, which the men do not approve of. But when a Predator lands on Earth and threatens her tribe, Naru gets her chance.

With the setting, it definitely sounds like a breath of fresh air for the “Predator” franchise. And the critics are more than enthusiastic about “Prey”, as the first reactions on Twitter show.
