The best projectors: a comparison of 4K and Full HD projectors

If you want to create a real cinema feeling at home, you cannot avoid a projector. Here we show you our top recommendations for 4K and Full HD enjoyment. You can also see what our test winner can do in the video.

For a real cinema experience at home, a projector is a must. However, there are big differences here, because an office projector, for example, has to meet completely different requirements than a home cinema projector. The luminous flux plays a major role here, because it decides how powerful the image from the projector can be projected onto the screen. With a luminous flux of 2,000 lumens, for example, you can even use the projector in daylight. With a value of 1,500 lumens or less, the room has to be darkened in order to be able to use the projector properly. Differences in quality are also noticeable in terms of contrast and installation flexibility. This was also confirmed in our test: we put 12 test models through their paces and were able to identify a few differences. Two projectors were able to get a “very good” rating.

Sony projector is test winner

Our test winner is the Sony VPL-VW590ES. The native 4K projector with professional LCoS technology delivers excellent image display and high-contrast detail resolution. The VPL-VW590ES contains the technology that Sony also uses in its professional cinema projectors. For the top projector, however, you have to dig deep into your wallet and accept compromises in terms of equipment. If you don’t want to spend so much money, you could use the Acer H6518STi find what you are looking for for around 645 euros. Because our price tip also has a lot on the box: The projector requires little distance for large images and displays videos in full HD excellently. However, this DLP projector is overwhelmed with HDR images in 4K UHD resolution. the Benq TH585 is also an inexpensive all-rounder in Full HD format, but is also not suitable for 4K HDR images.
