Arte is broadcasting the first three episodes of “Black Butterflies” this evening, an exciting and serial thriller carried by Nicolas Duvauchelle and Niels Arestrup, which tells us about the life of a couple of serial killers.

Who is it with?
To embody Adrien, the novelist short of inspiration, the two creators Olivier Abbou (Maroni) and Bruno Merle (Felicità) called on Nicolas Duvauchelle, a regular on the small screen since he has already played in Braquo, A man of honor and Gone forever.
For the occasion, he gives the reply to Niels Arestrup, an actor whose reputation is second to none, who here lends his features to Albert. The young version of the character is camped by Axel Granberger, an actor discovered in season 2 of Maroni, while Solange is played by Alyzée Costes, who gets her first major role here.
Brigitte Catillon (The Taste of Others), Alice Belaïdi (Hippocrates), Sami Bouajila (Omar killed me) and Marie Denarnaud (HPI) complete the cast.

What is the part of fiction in the way we tell ourselves? This is the starting point of the story imagined by Olivier Abbou and Bruno Merle in Les Papillons Noirs. When Adrien, a writer losing his inspiration, is hired to write the epic love story of a lonely old man, he is far from imagining that Albert’s confessions are anything but ordinary.
Under cover of a passionate romance, Solange and Albert embarked on a murderous odyssey to satisfy their sexual urges. But the more intimate desires of the young woman will call into question their vengeful crusade and undermine their relationship, which is as toxic as it is passionate.
With Les Papillons Noirs, Olivier Abbou and Bruno Merle offer us an ingenious thriller that manages the feat of mixing the detective genre with horror and intimate drama. With its many comings and goings between past and present, the complex narrative keeps making us question the notion of reality, making this series highly addictive.

Like Adrien, viewers are quickly swept up in the twists and turns of Albert’s life, without suspecting for a second that a much deeper drama is being played out. With clues squandered over the episodes, the two screenwriters create a much more complex universe than it seems and thus give the spectators the keys to understanding the final twist which will surprise many.
The distribution is of course not to be outdone, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Niels Arestrup forming a duo that works wonderfully. For their part, Axel Granberger, who plays young Albert, and Alyzée Costes, alias Solange, form a magnetic couple as beautiful as they are destructive. They manage without any difficulty to give a humanity to these serial killers that we should however hate.
With its stylized violence, Les Papillons Noirs is an effective and addictive thriller that brilliantly renews the genre seen and reviewed of fictions on serial killers. The series is not to be missed!
