A galaxy far, far away, a planet amazingly close, the depths of the seas – and a mythical serpent? The series tips in May.

“The Boat” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” reappear in May. The “Star Wars” warrior celebrates his comeback in the galaxy far, far away on Disney + and thanks to prequel darts seller Ewan McGregor (51), while the Kaleun on Sky is already in its third season. But the other streaming providers also have interesting new and already well-known series on offer.

Disney+

What is probably the biggest series highlight of May for many is still waiting until the 27th: “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on Disney +. The “Star Wars” series takes place between the events of Episode III. and IV., i.e. between the original and the prequel trilogy. So viewers learn what happens after the seizure of power by the Empire and the destruction of the Jedi order for the now persecuted master Kenobi (McGregor). And how he sets his eyes on a certain little boy named Luke Skywalker on Tatooine…

Meanwhile, secular entertainment is offered by the fourth season of “The Rookie”, which will be available on Disney + from May 18th. Once again, career changer and late forty John Nolan (Nathan Fillion, 51) has to prove his qualities as a police officer.

Netflix

At Netflix, “The Pentaverate” returns on May 5, a comedy great who has disappeared quite a bit in recent years: Mike “Austin Powers” Myers (58). The miniseries “The Pentaverate” is a feast for all Myers fans from the very beginning, as it is a kind of spin-off of his comedy film “Honey, are you holding the axe?” from 1993. Special highlight: Chameleon Myers plays eight different roles in it.

Also on Netflix, starting May 18, Alejandro “Álex” Guzmán (Manolo Cardona, 45) is once again asking the question: “Who murdered Sara?”. The third season of the Mexican thriller hit will also be the finale.

AppleTV+

The series “The Essex Serpent” is based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Perry (43) and starts on May 13th on Apple TV+. Both the book and the series are set in the late 19th century and are about the widow Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes, 43), who moves from London to a small village in Essex after the death of her abusive husband. There she meets the reverend of the small town, Will Ransome (Tom Hiddleston, 41), and his family. But what interests her most is the legend of “The Serpent of Essex”, which is said to have awakened there after an earthquake.

sky

Pay channel Sky or the streaming offers Sky Ticket, Sky Go and Sky Q will wash up “Das Boot” again from May 14th. Season three tells the story of the young submarine crew caught in the Battle of the Atlantic and hunted by the Royal Navy Commander. Meanwhile, in neutral Lisbon, Hagen Forster (Tom Wlaschiha, 48) is increasingly questioning his actions.

Amazon Prime Video

The sci-fi drama “Night Sky” comes to Amazon Prime Video from May 20th. It’s about a married couple who – a little “Narnia” says hello – can travel to another, deserted planet with the help of a mysterious chamber in their shed. But then a curious neighbor finds out about her unbelievable secret. In addition, a young man suddenly appears on the distant planet – an alien? Played as Mr. and Mrs. York by Sissy Spacek (72) and Oscar winner JK Simmons (67)
