The public prosecutor of Brest confirmed on Saturday that the charred body found Thursday in a forest in Finistère was that of Héléna Cluyou, a young student nurse who disappeared on Sunday January 29 after an evening in a nightclub in Brest. The main suspect died Thursday in hospital after a double suicide attempt.

The public prosecutor of Brest confirmed on Saturday that the charred body found Thursday in a forest in Finistère was that of Héléna Cluyou, a young student nurse who disappeared on Sunday January 29 after an evening in a nightclub in Brest. “The body found this week is indeed that of Héléna (Cluyou)”, declared Saturday morning the public prosecutor of Brest Camille Miansoni during a press conference. “The state of the body did not identify any tangible traces of violence, perhaps future analyzes will allow us to find out more,” added Miansoni.

“There is no element to establish” that Héléna Cluyou and the suspect “knew each other”

The suspect, a 36-year-old from Brest who died in hospital on Thursday after a double suicide attempt, was a “socially and professionally integrated person”, who “was not on the radar of justice”, according to the magistrate, who however, mentioned an old procedure closed without further action for sexual harassment in 2017. “There is no element to establish that they knew each other”, added the magistrate about the victim and the suspect.

Héléna Cluyou, a young student nurse who should have celebrated her 21st birthday on February 1, had not given any sign of life since Sunday January 29 at 5:20 a.m., when she left the One Club, a nightclub in the port of Brest. The trace of the young woman is lost after a last CCTV image, taken at 6:42 a.m., showing her walking in a street, between the nightclub and the home of her grandparents where she lived.

The investigation accelerated after the identification of a suspect a few days after the facts. The man had tried to end his life twice last week, after confiding to relatives “having done something stupid, that his life was over” and that “it was an accident”. His vehicle was found burned last week in a sensitive area of Brest.
