The boss of the SNCF Jean-Pierre Farandou estimated, Wednesday, July 13, that the railway should double its presence in the field of transport to work for the decarbonization of France.
The final objective is to increase its modal share – that is to say its contribution compared to the entire transport offer – from 10% to 20%, assures the company.
To achieve this goal, the president of the railway company has defended several projects that will require investment “not inaccessible to the public authorities”, he assured during a meeting with a group of journalists. The whole would represent an effort of 100 billion additional euros over fifteen years, for which the State could contribute up to 50%, he assures.
Continue building high-speed lines
Jean-Pierre Farrandou notably insisted on the idea of creating metropolitan RERs in thirteen major French cities or on the need to double the share of rail freight in the transport of goods.
Another important subject: the modernization of the signaling of the network with a massive investment in centralized control systems in order to reduce the number of signal boxes. Finally, the boss of the SNCF also invites to continue the construction of new high-speed lines.
