“I still want justice.” With these words, singer Britney Spears (39) was not only directed at the end of October 2021 to her almost 35 million followers on Instagram. It was also a direct “message to my family … that hurt me more than you could ever know.” The latest developments in the guardianship process suggest what Spears might have meant by these sentences. Because in addition to her father Jamie Spears, who has always been a controversial figure in the “Free Britney” movement, the singer is now making explicit allegations against her mother Lynne.
The chronology of freedom
Britney Spears has recently made huge strides in court when it comes to guardianship. For 13 years, father Jamie Spears directed her fortunes and, it is alleged, her entire life. But in the meantime he has been deposed as the singer’s guardian by a judge in Los Angeles. Even more: on November 12, 2021, it will be decided whether Britney Spears will finally be exempted from guardianship.
So the desire for freedom could soon come true. What remains is the desire for justice. Britney Spears attorney Mathew Rosengart senses sheer calculation behind Jamie Spears’ maneuver to suddenly stand up for an end to his daughter’s guardianship.
In new court documents that are said to be available to the US magazine “People”, Rosengart questions Jamie’s motives. The reason for this change of heart is not the love for his daughter, but the attempt to evade urgent questions. For example, whether he had his daughter monitored by video and telephone. Or how much money he has spent from his daughter’s assets over the past 13 years – and on what. Britney Spears’ attorney would like answers under oath from Jamie Spears.
Settlement with the mother
The name of Britney Spears’ mother Lynne was rarely mentioned in the past 13 years. A circumstance that apparently affects the pop star seriously. In another Instagram post, which is no longer on her page, Spears went harshly with her mother.
