The Callisto Protocol: PUBG made it difficult to develop the story

Originally, The Callisto Protocol was meant to be a game set in the PUBG universe, but in the end, the developers made the choice to move away from the battle royale, as we learned a few months ago. Several explanations have already been given, and Mark James, technical director of Striking Distance has come to clarify other things (via PCGamesN).

As development progressed and, more importantly, the story took shape, the teams realized that it was going to be difficult to tell their own story while integrating PUBG perfectly. After careful consideration, the studio finally made the choice, speaking with Krafton, to take a different path, since they felt they could create their own universe.

We looked at both universes, and there was a good 400 years between the two. It got so big that the connection would have encroached on Callisto’s universe. It was getting hard to tell our story while making that connection. We said to ourselves: We have a game to establish that universe, and we hope to evolve it into a franchise. “. So we spoke to Krafton and said, ” We don’t want this game to be part of the PUBG universe anymore “. And they basically said if you think that’s the right move for the game, then you don’t have to.

However, Mark James specifies that it will be possible to get your hands on some easter eggs, whether through audio recordings, notes, or tags on the walls, also allowing you to deepen the story.

We can discover all this in The Callisto Protocol from December 2, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series.
