The Castex government enjoys a last evening, while its successor remains unknown

These are probably their last moments together. Ministers and their spouses are invited to Matignon for a “garden party”: a buffet will be set up in the garden of the Hôtel de Matignon. A “warm evening”, according to a collaborator, but tensions could be felt.

Outdoor dinner Thursday evening at Matignon. The day after the last Council of Ministers, Jean Castex organized his farewell meal there. A dinner to which all his ministers are invited. After playing extra time, the current Prime Minister is indeed preparing to hand over. These are undoubtedly their last moments together: the ministers and their spouses are therefore invited to Matignon for a dinner, or more precisely to a garden party, since it is a buffet that will be set up in the garden of the Hôtel de Matignon. Which, by the way, has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful buildings in the capital.

A “warm evening”, with a little tension

A “warm evening”, according to a collaborator of the Prime Minister. Even if we can imagine that there will still be a little tension. Indeed, most ministers are waiting to be determined on their fate. Which is not the case with Jean Castex who has already sent the message: he will not stay at Matignon, or even in the government. Much appreciated at the Élysée, he would have declined several proposals. He will not present himself either in the legislative elections, any more than in the senatorial elections.

But before knowing the name of his successor and presenting the resignation of his team, the Prime Minister should end the week in his post. He is expected this Sunday at the Vatican where he will lead the French delegation for the canonization of Charles de Foucauld. A trip which should therefore be his last official trip, even if, at this stage, it is not completely excluded that this will be his first as a former tenant of Matignon.
