La dark night in the heart of the capital. As BFMTV spotted, a major power outage deprived many homes and offices in central Paris of electricity for 15 minutes on Thursday, December 8, at the end of the evening. “Following damage that occurred around 10:15 p.m., homes are currently without #electricity in the south-east of Paris. All @RTE_idfn teams are mobilized to allow a return to normal as soon as possible”, communicated RTE on Twitter.

On its website, Enedis explains that 75 streets were affected in the 1st and 4th arrondissements, 62 streets were cut in the 3rd arrondissement and finally 34 streets in the 5th arrondissement. On social networks, many Internet users have shared photos of different Parisian streets plunged into total darkness.

Most outbreaks were restored before midnight. Several streets in the 5th and 14th arrondissements were still affected, indicated Enedis in its application “Enedis by my side”, evoking for certain streets a recovery at 1:30 a.m. or even 3 a.m. Around 12:30 a.m., most of the streets in the 5th arrondissement were lit again, according to an AFP journalist.

Some 60,000 homes depending on the Gobelins power station were deprived of power only very briefly, some only for a few seconds. On the other hand, for 65,000 customers, dependent on the Cardinal-Lemoine station, it lasted between 20 and 40 minutes, specifies RTE.

A manual operation will still have to be carried out to restore the last homes cut during the night. Analyzes will be launched to determine the nature of the incident, adds RTE.

This damage of the evening has no connection with the potential temporary power cuts which could be decided in the event of too strong tensions on the network, and which are at the center of the discussions for several days.
