The Cyclades by Marc Fitoussi

With Laure Calamy, Olivia Côte, Kristin Scott Thomas…

What is it about ? As teenagers, Blandine and Magalie were inseparable. Years passed and they lost sight of each other. As their paths cross again, they decide to take the trip they’ve always dreamed of together. Off to Greece!

Did you know ? After Maman a tort, a winter and rather disenchanted dramatic comedy released in 2016, Marc Fitoussi wanted to write an optimistic and sunny comedy. The memory of friendships made when he was younger then quickly imposed itself.

Great Sailor by Dinara Drukarova

With Dinara Drukarova, Sam Louwyck, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson…

What is it about ? Lili left everything to go to the end of the world to realize her dream: fishing on the North Seas. She persuades Ian, a trawler captain, to give her a chance and embarks on the Rebel. Solitary and elusive, the one nicknamed “sparrow” is the only woman in the crew.

Did you know ? For the sake of credibility, Dinara Drukarova did fishing courses before filming. It is a difficult world to access because fishermen do not want “tourists” on their boat. She confides: “It’s a very closed world, their work is risky work, and very physical.”

The Flight of Pietro Marcello

With Raphaël Thiéry, Juliette Jouan, Louis Garrel…

What is it about ? Somewhere in the North of France, Juliette grows up alone with her father, Raphaël, a soldier who survived the First World War. One summer, the young girl meets a magician who promises her that scarlet sails will come one day to take her away from her village.

Did you know ? L’Envol is freely adapted from the novel Les Voiles écarlates by the Soviet writer Alexandre Grin. Originally, Pietro Marcello had not planned to adapt it. It was his producer, Charles Gillibert, and his collaborator, Romain Blondeau, who offered him to read it. He remembers :

“What interests me in the first place in the novel is the relationship between the father and the daughter. The mother dies, it is up to the father to take care of the child. The bond that is created between them fascinated me. And it fascinated me even more to imagine what happens when the father dies.”

The Cadors of Julien Guetta

With Jean-Paul Rouve, Grégoire Ludig, Michel Blanc…

What is it about ? The story of two brothers that everything opposes. Antoine, married, two children, boat driver, and Christian, single, unemployed and incorrigible brawler. But when Antoine, the ideal husband, finds himself embroiled in a dirty story, it’s the unloved Christian who, even if he hasn’t been asked anything, arrives in Cherbourg to come to his rescue.

Did you know ? Julien Guetta chose a title that is both “ironic and tender”, with a 1980s side. He explains: “A cador in a footballers’ locker room is the idea of virility and strength. However, the film shows rather clumsy fragile men who want to make good faces with a virile image that is a little outdated. They cling to this image when you can also be a cador when you are sensitive, touching and sincere.”

The Novice by Lauren Hadaway

With Isabelle Fuhrman, Amy Forsyth, Dilone…

What is it about ? Alex Dall, a lonely young girl devoured by a need to succeed, decides to join the rowing club at her university. As soon as she arrives, she wants to join the best crew by all means, including going beyond her own physical and mental limits, even if it means alienating her teammates.

Did you know ? At 17, Lauren Hadaway decided to enter her university’s novice rowing team, even though she was not athletic and knew nothing about this sport. In the space of a few months, she became obsessed with this sport, and this for 4 years:

“It consumed me. I dreamed about it. I talked about it. I read about it. I read hundreds of pages of data, analyzed video frame by frame, researched formulas and developed complicated Excel spreadsheets to track my progress.”

The Rascals of Jimmy Laporal-Tresor

With Jonathan Feltre, Missoum Slimani, Jonathan Eap…

What is it about ? The Rascals, a gang of young people from the suburbs, take advantage of the carefree life of the 80s. At a record store, one of them recognizes a skin that had attacked him and decides to take justice into his own hands. Witnessing the scene, the skin’s younger sister approaches an extremist student who promises revenge against the Rascals.

Did you know ? The Rascals takes place in 1984, the year when the FN made its first big score on a national scale, with nearly 11% in the European elections and 10 Euro-deputies. While neo-Nazi Skinheads took over concerts and occupied the streets, in particular several Parisian districts (Les Halles, Saint-Michel, Convention…), the Black Dragons were born in 1983.

Distraught, Clara finds refuge in the complicit relationship she maintains with her three children, in particular with the eldest born in a body that does not correspond to her.

Did you know ? L’Immensità is a personal film that Emanuele Crialese has wanted to make for many years. The director explains: “It was always ‘my next film’, but each time it gave way to another story, as if I didn’t yet have the maturity necessary to feel ready.”

“This is my most personal film, a trip down memory lane through memories, sometimes precise, sometimes vague, and impressions of a time past, revisited and reworked through the prism of the experience I have acquired today.”

But how do you convince everyone to question their mode of life? To reason more “collectively” and for the future?”
