Did you know ? Masquerade is adapted from a book that Nicolas Bedos tried to write for a year and which recounted in a very romantic way a period of his life, around the age of 23, when he “was drowning in idleness and other people’s money” (in his own words). The director explains:
“I say it without coquetry: I am a failed novelist. Because I get lost in digressions, I get stuck for weeks on stylistic retouching and I lose the main plot. This is Doria [Tillier]my girlfriend at the time, who one evening said to me: “stop, make a film of it”.

“When I was a child, he told me their stories. I was very bored in this bled, small, and these stories fascinated me, as if something extraordinary or magical could happen. I got there interested and I started meeting people, not knowing that I was going to make a film.”

Throughout the fitting process, Anthony Fabian made it clear why Mrs Harris was obsessed with buying a Dior dress: “The book contains the structure of the story but not its flesh. You never know why she wants this dress so much, and it seems like a rather superficial fad.”
