The classic French manicure is over: here is the new summer trend that will be on all nails in 2024

The French manicure (or French manicure) is a method of nail makeup that is very popular today. Its name refers to French elegance and refinement in the field of fashion. This technique, born across the Atlantic in the 1970s, was invented and popularized by Hollywood stars.

The French consists of applying a simple line of opaque white varnish to the edge of the nail in order to make it appear longer and is carried out in just four steps, starting by applying a nail varnish, called Delphine base, on the the entire nail. The second step consists of depositing a layer of opaque white varnish demarcating the edge of the nail from the rest, while the third step consists of depositing a so-called “natural” nail varnish over the entire nail. And finally, the nail technician will apply a finishing coat of transparent varnish to protect the manicure.

Exit the French, discover the new trendy manicure that will be all the rage

If the French continues to seduce many women, it could well be eclipsed by a new summer trend seen on Jennifer Lopez: the translucent French manicure. While she is in full promotion of her next film on Netflix, Ben Affleck’s wife has attracted the attention of fashionistas, not for her outfit, but for her manicure.

Unlike the French manicure, this new trend is characterized by the use of completely transparent oval-shaped tips, where no varnish is supposed to be applied on it. This technique allows you to keep the transparency of the capsule which protrudes from the nail, giving a water drop effect nail art. On Instagram, manicurist Tom Bachik, known for enhancing the nails of Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez, explained that he polished the Puerto Rican actress’ natural nails before covering them with slightly longer, transparent nails. He finished the beauty look by applying sunscreen oil to the star’s hands, giving a more radiant effect.

The most trendy nail polish colors for this summer 2024

As the sunny days approach, some women will not hesitate to make a quick trip to their nail technician to enhance their nails. Exit the classic French manicure, opt for brighter colors or shades going towards nude.

If pink and red will remain timeless colors for this summer, the summer season could also be synonymous with simplicity. Christian David, founder of Kure Bazaar, confided to our colleagues at ELLE that this year would be marked “100% transparent nails, very shiny and slightly pink, like a lip gloss”.
