the CLCV regrets the rejection of a rent freeze by the government

The Consumption Housing Framework Association calls for a rent freeze to help the purchasing power of households. A measure for the moment rejected by the government which favors other avenues.

While the benchmark rent index has jumped 2.48% since the start of the year and could reach 5.4% by the end of the yearthe association Consumption Housing Framework of Life (CLCV) sounded the alarm in a press release.

On Wednesday June 1, the Minister for the Economy Bruno Le Maire and the Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Amlie de Montchalin met professional unions (FNAIM, UNIS, and SNPI), considered by the government as the representatives of donors. During these discussions, the government made it known that it was not in favor of freezing rents but was considering other solutions.

Without a rent freeze, an increase in arrears?

For the CLCV, the rejection of the exceptional and temporary freeze on rents, which guarantees the purchasing power of tenants and entails no expense for the owners, only a loss of earnings, is regrettable, since this measure would make it possible to act directly to combat inflation.

What the government is unable to do for the moment, since the increase in the minimum wage and retirement pensions by 4%, as had been announced by the public authorities, represents 52 euros monthly while inflation today results in a cost of 123 euros per month, excluding rentrecalls the CLCV.

Salaries, pensions, Livret A, RSA, rents… When will they increase in line with inflation?

Rather than freezing rents, the government is considering several measures, including removing the cost of energy from the calculation of the reference rent index (IRL). Not enough according to the consumer association which explains that even with this proposal, the IRL will reach 3.2% in July. The reckless increase in rents will necessarily result in a loss of purchasing power for tenants and an increased risk of non-paymentin particular among social landlords, still alerts the CLCV.
