The sixth major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 has just been deployed. Between bug fixes, new features, requested features and improvements, here’s what’s changing.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has established itself as one of the best surprises of 2023. The CRPG can pride itself on having succeeded in opening up a genre considered niche to a whole new audience. A craze that is also found among critics, the latest baby from Larian Studios still garnering GOTY 2023 titles today at the most prestigious award ceremonies. The latest: the DICE Awards which were held on the evening of February 15, 2024. Nothing seems to stop it even six months after its release, and the developers do not intend to stop there. The follow-up of the game continues with a sixth big update. We were expecting it for Valentine’s Day, it finally arrived today.
Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 6 is here
BG3’s sixth major update is here. A patch 6 that many players were hoping to see arrive for Lovers’ Day given the content that had been teased by Larian Studios. Among the most requested changes, new animations for kisses between our heroes. The studio had given some examples including Lae’Zel and Shadowheart, or even Gale who is completely dominated by Astarion (which is not shocking in itself). It was finally on February 16, 2024 that the developers decided to deploy this new update. This is once again a big baby of 21 GB, which brings thousands of fixes and improvements of all kinds.
This patch 6 of Baldur’s Gate 3 therefore brings new romantic animations, with an emphasis on the plural. Each companion will now have custom animations that better reflect their personalities. They will be more random in order to vary the pleasures and yes, they adapt to Tavs of all shapes and sizes. The endgame cutscenes have also undergone some changes to better reflect the bond that unites you with the one of your heart. Your companions will have new default animations when you go about your business at camp. Karlach should continue to dance and Astarion to read, but the others have obviously found other occupations in the meantime. In terms of small changes, Shadowheart will now react when you sit on the stool next to her in the camp. Her response will obviously depend on your relationship with her.
Some new features on the agenda
One of the major new features concerns our allies and group management. No more going back and forth between the member we wanted to leave at camp and the one we wanted to take with us on our adventures. With patch 6 of Baldur’s Gate 3 everything will be done faster. From now on, all you have to do is have a chat with the companion you want to add to your team and an option will directly allow you to choose who you want to oust. THE trydards will not be left out, since new legendary actions have also been added for bosses in Honor mode. Suffice to say that this will spice up their games a little more and above all make them more difficult.
Another much-requested improvement is that dialogues that are triggered automatically will now feature your avatar. No need to reload the game anymore because Lae’Zel has followed suit and finds himself having to negotiate on behalf of the group. Your classmates will finally stop having “main character syndrome”, when you are clearly the star of this adventure. Speaking of her, you will now be able to join her fight against Vlaakith, even if you’re not a gith. The only condition will be to have started a romantic relationship with her.
Lots of changes with Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 6
Another small change, you can now customize the difficulty of your game via the dedicated mode, unless you have chosen Honor mode obviously. In other words, you can adjust certain gameplay elements to your liking whenever you want. Also if you decide to take a long rest by only filling your stomach with alcohol, expect a penalty of 10 turns when you wake up, just to take the time to properly cool down.
As with each new major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios reminds that the mods are still not officially supported and can cause some problems. If you experience any issues after installing the update, consider uninstalling them temporarily for you if it persists.
