The Commissioner and the Sea: ZDF ends the crime series and develops a new idea

The ZDF discontinues the German-Swedish crime series "The Commissioner and the Sea", as confirmed by the broadcaster at the request of the news agency spot on news. The decision was made "after careful consideration and in agreement with everyone involved," says the corresponding statement. This step was not an easy one, but in order to be able to develop something new, one has to say goodbye to established ranks again and again. Many thanks to the performers – above all Walter Sittler (67) – for their dedication and commitment. They are already working on a new idea together with leading actor Sittler.

The broadcaster emphasized that the "Commissioner and the Sea" would remain with the viewer at least until 2021. The shooting of the last and therefore 29th film in the series with the working title "Where we come from, where we go" starts this autumn. The 28th case "The Commissioner and the Sea – Happy Days" has already been completed, but a broadcast date has not yet been fixed.

Since 2007, Walter Sittler, as German Commissioner Robert Anders, has been investigating on the island of Gotland in Sweden with his fellow actors Andy Gätjen (46, Thomas Wittberg) and Inger Nilsson (61, Ewa Svensson). The series is loosely based on the novels by the Swedish author Mari Jungstedt (57).
