Invited on the waves of Sud Radio, the producer answered a question that comes up every year on the sidelines of Miss France: will the competition one day be open to trans women? For Alexia Laroche-Joubert, “there is no problem”. The only condition: “that the civil identity is feminine“.”So there is no problem. For transsexuals (sic) who have moved towards the feminine, who have a feminine identity card, there is no problem. No problem“, she explained to the microphone of Sud Radio.

For her part, Sylvie Tellier, the general manager of the company Miss France, had already spoken on the subject in 2019 and she was less open to this idea than Alexia Laroche-Joubert. “JI don’t think the French are ready to elect a Miss transsexual (sic)“she said.

On the subject, France is late. In 2018 already, the trans model Angela Ponce was elected Miss Spain. She thus became the first trans woman to compete in Miss Universe.

The competition soon to be modernized?

The very strict rules of the Miss France contest attract their share of criticism every year. Indeed, to be able to register for the competition, it is necessary to be a minimum of 1m70, not to be or to have been married and finally not to have a piercing or tattoo. Minister Elisabeth Moreno had also qualified this regulation as “has been”. Alexia Laroche-Joubert assured to be in full reflection to try to modernize the competition. She also called 25 Miss France to try to understand what involved the responsibilities of Miss France. “I would like to work at a college of reflection on the regulation with a common reflection because there is a moment when one says to me for example: “why they do not have children?” The 25 misses that I had on the phone said to me: “It is not possible” On the other hand, there are surely adjustments to be made.“

For her part, Miss Trans France 2021 told the Huffington Post have contacted Sylvie Tellier to help her open the competition to trans people. An invitation for the moment remained unanswered, but “the door is open“, she assured.
