The series world in the USA is in turmoil because the authors of popular series and show formats have resigned from their jobs. Contract disputes at the Writers Guild of America are to blame.
The union regulates the working conditions of all writers in the USA and ensures that they are paid fairly. However, the current contract expired on May 1, 2023 and no compromises have yet been found for a new agreement.
The late-night shows, which are now on a break, are feeling the effects in the USA. But large series productions from Netflix, Paramount+ and Co. are also in limbo. Many a series has already been canceled because of the writers’ strike, because producers, authors and actors could not agree.
We will feel the full effects from late summer and autumn 2023. Many series that should start then are either postponed or canceled.
