The continuous news channel France 24 began a strike on Thursday to denounce poor management, degraded working conditions and the precariousness of freelance journalists. The strike has been renewed, while new negotiations are to be held between management and the unions on Friday.

The editorial staff of France 24 continues its strike on Friday. Started Thursday, it was renewed in stride, with disruptions in the programs of the television channel. A meeting between the management and the unions took place on Friday morning and a new general assembly will take place the same day in the afternoon. The strikers intend to denounce many dysfunctions within the chain. Among the demands of the strikers, the establishment of a “precariousness reduction plan” for freelancers, the guarantee of “benevolent management”, and the “reorganization of the chain by skills and services”.

A “deep deterioration of working conditions”

Last week, the employees of France 24 had also initiated the vote of a motion of no confidence against some of the leaders of the chain, denouncing a “deep deterioration of their working conditions”. In an interview Monday with France Inter, the director of the chain, Vanessa Burggraf, recognized “a malaise” within the editorial staff and affirmed that it was necessary to “get out of it”.

France 24 offers four global continuous news channels (in French, English, Arabic and Spanish). They are emitted in 444 million hearths, distributed on the five continents.
