The craziest pitch of 2024? This film with a Justice League actress is going to get a lot of talk!

Nominated 6 times for the Oscars, American actress Amy Adams returns to the cinema with “Nightbitch”, a film in which she develops the fear of transforming into a dog…

Two years after donning Giselle’s princess dress in Once Upon a Time 2 released in November 2022 on Disney+ and having played an agoraphobic psychologist living cloistered at home in The Woman in the Window, Amy Adams is back with a project in pitch mad.

In Nightbitch, the American actress nominated 6 times at the Oscars, plays a former artist, who after the birth of her son, finds herself caught in the routine of her suburban life. She then begins to develop a fear of turning into a dog.

The dog metaphor

The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by American writer Rachel Yoder. The latter wrote the book as an outlet after becoming a mother and seeing the changes taking place in her private and professional life. Beyond the fun aspect of the fear of turning into a dog, the novel explores the roles of men and women in parenthood and the isolation that mothers can feel.

The transformation into a dog symbolizes how a woman who has recently become a mother perceives the change in society’s view of her, which leads to a change in her own perception. In the novel, by caring for her child, the heroine comes to forget herself and has the impression of transforming into a beast.

Described as a darkly comedic horror film by Searchlight Pictures who produced the film, Nightbitch is directed by Marielle Heller, already at work on The Counterfeiters of Manhattan with Melissa McCarthy and The Extraordinary Mr. Rogers with Tom Hanks.

Amy Adams is also a producer on the feature film and co-stars with Scoot McNairy (Batman v Superman, True Detective), Mary Holland (The Big Door Prize) and Kerry O’Malley.

Adams began developing the adaptation alongside the director during the Covid-19 pandemic. The feature film is scheduled to hit American theaters on December 6. No date has yet been announced in France.
