The Crew is dead, but Ubisoft is still driving the point home

At the end of last year, Ubisoft announced sad news: he was going to cut off the servers of The Crew, the racing gameIvory Tower. Enough to annoy many players, the title was released in 2014 and will therefore have had a lifespan of only 10. It’s short, and it reignites the debate on digital games and the preservation of video games.

The closure of the servers The Crew was scheduled for March 31, the title is therefore dead because it is unplayable without an online connectionbut some players still hoped to be able to launch the game to try to save The Crew with some mods unofficial and continue to have fun solo. For Ubisoftit’s out of the question, an Internet user Reddit shares a screenshot of his library Ubisoft Connectdisplaying a clear message:

You no longer have access to this game. Why not go to the Store to continue your adventures?

Yes, Ubisoft has completely revoked the user license to buyers of The Crewit is no longer possible to launch the racing game, or even install it on your computer, as if you had never purchased it… A practice that is unfortunately completely legal, but which particularly irritates players. The latter do not risk visiting the store to buy The Crew Motorfest (available in box on PS5 from €31 on Amazon, Cdiscount And Fnac), which could suffer the same fate in 2032, 10 years after its release.

As a reminder, just like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws will require an online connection to install, when first launched. If it will subsequently be possible to play without the Internet, players fear losing access to their game in the future, as for The Crew, even when purchasing a physical copy. Funny times.
