The Crown: did Kate Middleton’s mother initiate her romance with Prince William as the Netflix series claims?

An episode of the final season of “The Crown” claims that Kate Middleton’s mother orchestrated her romance with Prince William. Did things really happen like this in reality?

Several times accused of moving away from the truth, the sixth season of The Crown is this time playing with fire! Episode 7 of part 2, which traces Prince William’s education at the University of Saint Andrews, looks back on the first meeting of the current Prince of Wales with his future wife, Catherine Middleton.

A completely fictitious scene claims that the first meeting of the two future spouses took place in 1996, when Kate (then aged fifteen) met William accompanied by his mother Diane during a charity event in London. But it was on the benches of the Scottish university that the future spouses saw each other for the first time.

A meeting which owes nothing to chance according to the series which suggests that Kate Middleton’s mother forced fate to arrange the romance between her eldest daughter and the heir to the British throne. Even if it means choosing Kate’s school curriculum and her university to ensure that she will be educated in the same place as Prince William.

Is this story authentic? There is no official proof of this, but the publication of several books gives credence to this hypothesis. First of all, several of Kate Middleton’s guardians admitted that the latter originally wanted to study at the University of Edinburgh, before her choice suddenly fell on St Andrews.

Kate Middleton’s seduction coach

In his burn entitled The Palace Papers, journalist Tina Brown returned to many secrets of the British royal family. Among which, behind the scenes of the meeting between Kate and William, and the formation of their glamorous and media couple.

In her book, the author claims that the ambition of Carole Middleton – Kate’s mother – was the main driving force behind the meeting between her daughter and the Prince. The book also argues that Ms. Middleton has transformed herself into a real seduction coach, with her daughter’s romantic adventures taking priority over her work as a business manager.

Royal family specialist Matthew Bell went in the same direction as Tina Brown, questioning the real circumstances of this meeting and the role played by Carole Middleton in this story. “Several sources wonder if her meeting at university with Prince William was really a coincidence” does he have notably declared.

It is therefore not entirely certain that the most glamorous couple of our time was formed by the shenanigans of Carole Middleton. In any case, the royal wedding celebrated on April 29, 2011 allowed this self-employed commoner to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with members of the royal family, then on July 22, 2013 to become the grandmother of Prince George, future king of England.

The sixth and final season of The Crown can now be found exclusively on Netflix.
