Netflix has given Imelda Staunton a first look as Queen. She plays the Queen in the last two seasons of “The Crown”.

Since last year it is clear that Imelda Staunton (65) will play the role of Queen Elizabeth II (95) in the last two seasons of “The Crown”. Now Netflix has given a first look at the “new Queen” and successor to Olivia Colman (47): A photo that too on the series’ official Instagram account was released, shows the actress in her role.

In the scene shown, Staunton is dressed as Queen in a polka dot yellow blouse. Her gray hair is curled up in curls, just like the queen is used to. The actress has also put on a serious look.

In the comments below the Instagram post, “The Crown” fans are reminded of an earlier role by Staunton: “Your Majesty Professor Umbridge,” writes an Instagram user with amusement. Imelda Staunton played the unpopular teacher Dolores Umbridge in the “Harry Potter” films, who actually has a hairstyle similar to Queen Elizabeth II. Others, however, are enthusiastic about the look: “Wow. She looks like the real queen,” comments one user.

Filming for the fifth season of “The Crown” is slated to start this summer. The new episodes are about the experiences of the British royal family between 1990 and 1997. In addition to Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II. Jonathan Pryce (74) as Prince Philip (1921-2021), Elizabeth Debicki (30) as Princess Diana (1961-1997 ) and Dominic West (51) as Prince Charles (72) with the party. The sixth and final season then takes a look at the royal history until the early 2000s.
