The Crown: The Queen faces Margaret Thatcher

"The Crown" doesn't just show the relationship between Charles and Diana. Things get complicated with the Queen and Margaret Thatcher too.

"Two women running the business – that's the last thing this country needs," explains Prince Philip (Tobias Menzies) in the new trailer for the fourth season of "The Crown". His wife, Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman), disagrees: "Maybe this country needs just that now!" Things are anything but smooth for the monarch after Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson) becomes Prime Minister.

In the new clip for the successful series, Thatcher is confident of victory: "My goal is to lead this country from dependency to independence. And I think I will succeed." The Prime Minister has to struggle with "unemployment, recession, crises, a dangerous game of creating enemies on the left, right and in the middle," as the Queen points out. "Not if you feel good about having enemies," replied the politician in the audience with Elizabeth II. "Do you do that?" Asks the Queen. "Oh yeah!"

The two women did not understand each other

The fourth season of "The Crown", which airs on Netflix from November 15, begins in the late 1970s and lasts until the 1980s. The tension between the Queen and Thatcher is a big issue in it. It was common knowledge that the Queen and Thatcher did not get along, said screenwriter Peter Morgan, according to media reports about the new episodes. They "certainly respected each other very much. But there were also many differences". And it was really fun to explore, he explained of the two women of the same age.

Another big topic of the new season: The royal family wants to find a "suitable" bride for Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor). Although Charles is obsessed with Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennell), his romance with Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) leads to a dream wedding. "It is now your duty to choose a woman who is loved by the people as a princess, and in due course as a queen," Charles heard in the trailer. The ups and downs of the relationship between Charles and Diana are already evident in the clip. "I just want to be loved", Diana says to the queen, "that is what we all want from you".
